How To Pack Lingerie For Travel

How To Pack Lingerie For Travel

Whether you’re curating outfits for a quick weekend getaway, or doing it big for Euro girl summer, one thing is for certain: some pretty lingerie is a must. And given we’re the experts here, we have some tips on packing your bras and panties

Why Packing Lingerie The Right Way Actually Matters

Although a drawer full of lingerie is often called your intimates, it should be referred to as your delicates – and packing them for travel the wrong way can add a bit of unwanted wear-and-tear to your most-loved pieces. I mean, who wants dented bra cups, warped underwiring, or a stretched-out clasp that constantly snags your clothes?

How To Pack Bras In A Suitcase

Unless you’re tucking a low-key bralette (sans the structured silhouette, like our V-Neck Retro Lace Bralette) in your bag, there’s a bit of an art to making sure you don’t destroy your bras’ cups. Here’s exactly how to pack bras for travel.

The Cup-Inside-Cup Method

To keep your bras looking pristine when you arrive at your destination, one tried-and-true method is to fold the bra at the center, flipping one cup into the other so both keep their rounded shape. From there, stuffing the cups with underwear, tees, or the like will prevent any denting.

The Flat Stack Method

If you’re unsure how to fold bras for travel, another go-to method is to keep the garment entirely flat in your bag, opting to stack your bras on top of one another if you bring more than one. Similarly, stuffing each cup with clothing helps keep the cups’ shape, and it’s recommended to pack your bras on top of everything else (instead of squished at the bottom of your bag).

What Not To Do With Your Bras

No matter which way you prefer to pack your bras, one major tip is to never forget to secure the clasp. Keeping your bras hooked prevents the tiny metal hooks from ever snagging your other clothing – especially pieces like a super delicate crochet sarong or a lace top. Never leave your bras unsecured.

How To Fold Underwear For Packing

Whether or not you’re a Type A kind of packer, there are easy ways to protect your undies in your luggage. Here’s how to fold underwear for travel.

The Roll Method

Rather than haphazardly throwing a handful of panties in your bag, stay organized by rolling each individual pair. You can either fold in half or three-ways before rolling down from top to bottom. Hello, easy-to-grab undies that don’t get tangled together.

The Fold & Tuck Method

For a slightly more secure panty packing method (that doesn’t easily unroll), fold your underwear in thirds before grabbing the bottom crotch area and tucking it in towards the waistband. You should be left with a pretty package that makes your luggage – and lingerie drawer – all the more organized.

How Much Lingerie To Pack (& How To Plan It)

Admittedly, I happen to be one of those “pack every single bra and undie I own” girls when travelling – but there are some best practices to keep in mind ahead of a trip.

For A Weekend Trip

For a three-day weekend trip, around four to five underwear is the sweet spot – that’s one undie per day, plus a few extras just in case. For weekend getaways made easy, you might want to pick-up a Multi-Pack of three or five colorful panties…

For A Week Or Longer

When packing undies for a week-long trip, the safest bet is to bring between eight and ten pairs (or at least one underwear per day). It’s also important to consider the outfits you have planned, as you may need a few extra pairs that are for a special occasion – like a BreatheSoft™ Natural Rise Thong when you need something seamless and invisible, for one. Though when in doubt, a must-bring undie for any trip (and under any outfit) is a handful of Signature Lace® Original Rise Thongs in neutrals like Black and Sun Tan Beige, or even playful hues like Dragonfruit Pink.

Tips For Keeping Lingerie Organized In Your Bag

When in doubt, a bag-in-bag for travel is always a good idea…

Using Packing Cubes

Packing cubes are the ultimate essential for an organized travel bag as they entirely eliminate any clutter. What’s more, they can be sorted by type of clothing (like a cube filled with just swimsuits) or by pre-planned outfits, making for a getaway that feels totally stress-free.

Using Pouches Or Bags

If you don’t have any packing cubes on hand, packing your lingerie into smaller pouches and bags makes getting dressed on vacation a total breeze. No more digging through your beautifully folded clothes for a tiny pair of undies you can never seem to find.

The Bottom Line

No matter how much – or how – you pack your lingerie, some gorgeous new pieces for vacation is always a good idea. Shop our collection here and experience the Hanky Panky difference.
